There are so many exciting books coming this fall/winter and I literally cannot keep track! So even though it’s already August, I wanted to just sit down and put them all in one place in an attempt to stay more organized with my priorities for the remainder of my 2018 TBR list! This post will include upcoming releases as well as books that have already been released but I want to finish before the year ends! I will list the latter first since those are high up on the priority list (also bc my wallet is begging me to take a break from buying so many books over the summer oops) and I’ll follow with the upcoming releases! So go grab a snack, make some tea or coffee, get all cozy, and let’s jump into it!
Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman
I just finished Scythe yesterday and LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. It was amazing. It was unlike anything I ever expected from this book and I did not see any of those plot twists coming my way. But they were quality plot twists nonetheless. I literally cannot concentrate on anything right now except getting this book in my hands so I can see what happens next!! I am worried though because I have heard that the cliffhanger of Thunderhead is extreme torture and the final book in the trilogy, The Toll, doesn’t have a set release date other than 2019. But that probably won’t stop me and I’ll end up just wallowing away with everyone else waiting for the third book. (A full spoiler/non-spoiler review of Scythe is currently in the works and will be posted soon!)
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab
I’ve seen a lot of my book friends really getting into this series as of late after initially being apprehensive at first like me so it gave my little heart the push to finally try this series again! I have the physical copy and also the audiobook for it so I’m really hoping that this is finally the time that I will get to read a book by the highly recommended V. E. Schwab
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
This book has been on my TBR ever since its initial release in 2016 (I know, terrible). But come on, a kingdom where every generation has triplets who have to fight each other for the crown??? Yes please. Kendare Blake will also be coming to a city close to me in September for the release of the third book, Two Dark Reigns, so this would be the perfect time to finally start this book/series!
The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare
I have come up with a plan that I am pretty sure will involve a lot of pain, but WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO WHEN IT COMES TO CASSIE CLARE :))))))))))) I read Lady Midnight 2 years ago and I’ve had Lord of Shadows just chilling on my bookshelf ever since its release (and even got it signed by Cassie when I met her at Book Con last year). Basically, I am extremely rusty and very behind with this series. And since the last book of the trilogy, Queen of Air and Darkness, comes out on December 4th, I have come to the conclusion that December will mark my Dark Artifices marathon! I’m not really sure how it’s going to go, but I’m planning on reading the entire trilogy throughout December and pray that it doesn’t result in the biggest book slump ever (especially with The Wicked King coming out in January, it’ll either make me or break me IT’S FINE). Pray for me.
Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer (September 4th)
This book is unlike any book that I am usually geared toward, but here we are. It’s penned as being Dexter meets This Savage Song, which I have neither watched nor read, but the synopsis has me totally hooked! It’s basically about a girl named Nita who dissects supernatural bodies that her mother…”acquires”. But when Nita tries to save one of her mother’s victims who is very much still alive, the tables turn against her. “Nita did a good deed, and it cost her everything. Now she’s going to do a lot of bad deeds to get it all back.” OOOOO BOIIIII I am so ready for this book!!!
Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart (September 5th)
I’ve been trying to branch out and read new books that I normally wouldn’t think to pick up initially and thriller books are a perfect example! I am a complete scaredy cat and never really had the urge to read a creepy thriller-y book, but the synopsis of this book really drew me in! Genuine Fraud follows Imogen and Jule, two people who will do anything to reinvent themselves. But how many times can you change yourself until you have to face the consequences? *spooky noises*
Pride by Ibi Zoboi (September 18th)
Pride is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice featuring an Afro-Latina MC. Although I have personally never read Pride and Prejudice, but I am VERY MUCH looking forward to this!! Ibi Zoboi will also be coming to the same event that Kendare Blake will be at so I’m extremely excited to meet her as well!
Wildcard by Marie Lu (September 18th)
Warcross is by far my favorite book by Marie Lu thus far and I literally cannot wait to read the sequel because I NEED ANSWERS. I love the characters, I love the world, I love the C O N C E P T. I just love everything about this book and world, so if you haven’t read Warcross yet, I highly recommend it! 😉
Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd (October 2nd)
Emma from @emmmabooks said that this was a Parisian fantasy compared to The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (aka my OG YA book series love).
“Prepare to be spellbound by the world of Grim Lovelies, where secrets have been long buried, friends can become enemies, and everything—especially humanity—comes at a price.”
The synopsis got me and it won’t let go. I’m ready.
The Devil’s Thief by Lisa Maxwell (October 9th)
The Last Magician was one of my favorite reads of 2018 so far and I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel to come out!! This world and story is just a beautiful mix of Six of Crows, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, delightful banter, and allllll the tricks and ruses mwahahahahha.
What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera (October 9th)
“What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?
But what if it is?”
UM YES HELLO BROADWAY AND ROMANCE TRASH HERE i need i need i need *intense grabby hands* Also, did I mention hella Dear Evan Hansen references???? I will be waiting impatiently for this release.
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (October 23rd)
I have been crying internally the entire year because I have been waiting 2 years for this book but I also don’t want this precious series to end. The crying also intensified when I found out the glorious cover will be in GILDED GOLD and that it will be 992 pages. *intense whimpering* Between this and my TDA marathon at the end of the year, my body will be wrung of all tears *soft smile in the distance*
What books do you absolutely HAVE to finish before 2018 ends?? Let me know in the comments because I’m super curious!
